Americans Barron & Szymanski showed resiliency and determination to take the gold

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 21, 2007.- Showing a great dose of resiliency the American pair of Art Barron and Mike Szymanski won a deserved men’s gold medal in the Puerto Rico Beach Volleyball Tournament after playing three consecutive matches that went to the limit on Sunday.

 

Barron-Szymanski defeated Abdel Otero-Juan Rivera of Puerto Rico-2 in the final match by score of 21-15, 13-21, 15-12.

 

The Americans made it to the gold medal match with a 22-20, 14-21, 15-12 over Marcelo Araya-Jonathan Guevara of Costa Rica . Earlier in the morning they had defeated Javier Mendez-Jorge Gonzalez of Puerto Rico-3 by score of 21-15, 16-21, 15-13. More Spanish 


Home sweet home for Puerto Ricans Santiago-Yantin

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 21, 2007.- Yarleen Santiago and Yamileska Yantin of Puerto Rico-1 played consistently both serving and blocking and the simple formula gave them the women’s gold medal at the Puerto Rican Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third leg of the 2007 NORCECA Circuit.

 

In the final match on the sands of Isla Verde, Santiago-Yantin downed Margarita Suero-Bethania Almanzar of Dominican Republic by score of 21-14, 21-15.

 

The victory proved to be sweet for Santiago, who earlier this week announced her retirement from the international volleyball competition to pursue a beach career.  More Spanish 


Women’s semi finals with Puerto Rican flavour  

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 20, 2007.- The women’s semi final round of the Puerto Rico Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third leg of the NORCECA Circuit, will have a local flavor with three local pairs as protagonists.  

 

Yamileska Yantin and Yarleen Santiago of Puerto Rico-1 advanced with a 22-20, 21-17 victory over Maria Orellana-Anna Ramirez of Guatemala and now will meet Vanessa Velez-Ania Ruiz who beat Lorimar Rabell-Tejaira Ruiz of Puerto Rico-4 by score of 26-24, 19-21, 15-11.

  

The other semi final will have Maritere Ramos-Damaris Flores of Puerto Rico-3 against Dominicans Margarita Suero-Bethania Almanzar.

Hot start for Costa Ricans in Puerto Rico

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 19, 2007.- Costa Ricans Ingrid Morales and Natalia Alfaro enjoyed a hot start at the Puerto Rican Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third stop of the 2007 NORCECA Circuit.

 

Morales-Alfaro won their two matches on the sands of Isla Verde against Dominicans Suero-Almanzar (18-21, 21-17, 15-5) and Ramos-Flores of Puerto Rico-3 (21-15, 22-20).

 

Meanwhile, the Canadian duo of Joanna Niemczewska and Amanda Moppett won 21-15, 21-7 over Andrea Davis-Nancy Joseph of Trinidad & Tobago and took a 21-14, 21-11 victory against Julia Lewis-Lauren Whiteball of Barbados. More Spanish


Puerto Rico’s Beach Volleyball leg starts today at Isla Verde 

 

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, May 18, 2007.-  The third stage of the inaugural NORCECA’s Beach Volleyball Circuit is starting today with 20 matches in both genders on the sands of Isla Verde.

The General Technical Meeting was held last night with the presence of Mr. Carlos Beltran, Vice President of NORCECA for Beach Volleyball and Mr. Nelson Ramirez, the Technical Director of the event. More Spanish
